New Students Frequently Asked Questions

Where do I get a BTA form from?

The forms are available here, on the QLD Transport Website which can be downloaded, or you can get a copy from a Duffy's school bus driver.  Do not send BTA forms directly to Queensland Transport as they have to be initially processed at Duffys City Buses.

What happens if I move house after my application has been processed?

Then you must fill in another BTA form to notify us and QLD Transport of your new address. Failure to do so will mean that you will have to pay to travel to and from school and your bus pass being deactivated.

How do I know if I am eligible for School Bus Travel Assistance?

You need to check your eligibility on the School Transport Assistance Scheme before filling in the  BTA Form. If unsure you can fill in a form and contact Duffy's office for clarification.

If I have to pay to travel to school what are my options?

All students as of 2012 will have to be registered and have a 'Swipe N Go' bus pass issued to them. These cards have the facility to put credit on them.  You then use this credit to pay for all bus travel, including town services.

Do I need to have a bus pass before I can travel on the school bus?

All new students must be correctly and currently registered with Duffys Buses within the first month of travel.  BTA forms can be collected from the driver but must be brought to the office for assessment before any bus passes are issued.

If the parent or guardian of the student has a Pension or Healthcare Card can I get bus travel assistance for my student(s)?

If you live too close to be eligible under the BTA scheme, you can apply for a ‘Safety Net' bus pass provided you have a current pension or healthcare card. There is still a weekly fare to be paid to the driver each week but at a reduced rate.

IMPORTANT PLEASE NOTE - Students who apply for "SafetyNet" will have to pay the full travel fare until Duffy's Buses receives confirmation from Queensland Transport that the application has been approved.

What happens if I only plan on using the bus for a couple of days a week?

If you are eligible for government assistance then you still need to fill in a BTA Form for the days you plan to use it.  Your new 'School N Go' pass will be issued to you with those days you requested as allowable travel.  If you travel on any of those days that you do not put down on the BTA form you will have to pay for them via credit on your 'School N Go' pass.

The BTA form says eligibility is to your nearest state school, what happens if I go to a private school?

If you are eligible to your nearest state school but are travelling past it, to go to a private or alternate school, you still need to fill in a BTA form. Your BTA application, if successful, will cover your journey to your nearest school. You will then be required to pay a fare, to travel on to your school of choice.

NB Some areas may also be fully eligible for high school students to attend a private or alternate school if the school is over the eligible distance. Please contact Duffy's office for further information.

Do I need to fill in a form for each student in my family?

No, there is space for 4 students on each form.

How do I apply for school bus pass?

You need to complete a BTA form and bring it to Duffys City Buses Office with a $20.00 deposit.

I have a student with disabilities, attending a special education unit at school; can I apply through the BTA system for them to travel to school?

You need to apply through the ‘Special Education' unit at the school, who will fill in the necessary paperwork.

If I am not eligible for assistance can I still use the bus to get to school?

Yes, you just have to pay a fare each time you travel via your 'School N Go' bus pass.  These new passes (issued 2012) will have the facility to put creidt on them.  You will use the credit to pay for all school travel.  It may also be used on all of Duffys Buses Services.
