SMART CARDS ARE HERE FOR 2012!!

WHAT IS A ‘SMART CARD? - A ‘Smart Card' is a card which can be programmed via a chip, (similar to any form of bank card), to behave in certain a way depending on how the card is programmed.

The main purpose of these cards is to allow you to put ‘information' on them including ‘credit', eliminating the need for change. The information that is put on cards depends on the type of card it is.  The amount of credit you put on your card is entirely up to you.  Once you have attained a card - it is yours forever and as long as you have credit on it - you can travel on any Duffy's service at any time.

SO WHAT TYPES OF SMART CARDS ARE THERE? Basically there are two types of cards -

  • SWIPE N GO - The Swipe n Go is for general passenger use only.
  • SCHOOL N GO - The School N Go is for school passengers who are registered with Queensland Transport for travel under the Bus Travel Assistance Scheme.

HOW DOES THE ‘SWIPE N GO' WORK? - The ‘Swipe n Go' card is simple to use.  Once you have got your new card, and put credit on it, you can use it like cash.  Instead of paying the driver, you simply wave the card in front of the scanner (at the driver's instruction) and the correct amount of fare will be deducted from your card.  Your ticket will then print.  There is no need for any personal information to be put on these cards.

HOW DOES THE ‘SCHOOL N GO' WORK? - School n Go bus passes are issued to those students who are registered with Queensland Transport for travel assistance.  These passes have information programmed on them in relation to each particular students travel needs.  Students nominate the days they want to travel and for those days travel to and from school is free.  All 'other' travel must be paid for.  There is a facility available on the card to upload credit to pay for all 'other' travel.  Other information recorded relates to pick up and drop off points.  Students are only covered for free school transport based on what is recorded on their individual card. A deposit of $20.00 is required for these passes before they are issued due to programming costs.

HOW WILL I KNOW IF I HAVE ANY CREDIT LEFT ON MY CARD? - Each time a ticket is issued, the balance of your card will be printed on the bottom hand corner.  You can even pay half cash and half card if you only have a little amount of credit left.

HOW WILL I ‘TOP UP' MY CARD ONCE CREDIT RUNS OUT? - Initially, you will have to collect your card from our depot office.  But after that you will be able to ‘top up' your card with the bus driver.  (We are hoping to have cards available at other points in the very near future).

WHAT HAPPENS IF I LOSE MY CARD? - Your card is your responsibility, as it is your property.  If you lose your card and have credit on it, it is advised that you contact our office to stop any fraudulent use.  However, as the card is your responsibility - so is the cash on it.  If you lose the card you will lose any monies credited against it as well.

WHEN CAN I GET ONE? -

  • Swipe n Go cards are available at present from our Duffy's Buses Office.
  • School n Go cards will need to be programmed before being issued. This process will commence as soon as the correct paperwork has been received and deposit paid. Please note; Students who currently hold a deposit will not have to pay another one for their first card. Any subsequent cards will incur a $20.00 deposit fee; i.e. lost.
